If you’re looking for want to rent in Cambridge, things are looking up. A pair of proposed apartment buildings named Mass + Main received unanimous approval from the Cambridge Planning Board in January to begin development in the Central Square area of town.

Here’s what you’ll find at each building

The larger of the two buildings will face Massachusetts Avenue and stand 19 stories. The second building will stand six stories tall and overlook Columbia Street. In total, Mass + Main will house 285 units.

Although, the real gem residents will find is located on the ground floor. A variety of retail stores will open up shop in both locations. But that description doesn’t quite do it justice – there will be 17,000+ square feet of retail shopping options. Better yet, each building will contain passageways that connect to existing public areas.

The buildings, which are part of a larger project, will be developed by Twining Properties.

Plentiful living options and great amenities

There’s a parking garage in the same area that Twining Properties is developing into a 23-unit apartment building designed for family housing. The new buildings at Mass + Main will offer studios, lofts, and 1-3 bedroom apartments.

The plan also calls for about 150 vehicle parking spaces and 300+ bicycle parking spaces on-site.

In terms of pricing, 228 of the units will be offered at market-rate. A list of average rental costs per bedroom across the greater Boston area is available here.

The amenities at Mass + Main sound quite appealing – a club house, fitness room and green roof.

You’ll have to wait a bit longer to move in

With a fresh stamp of approval, construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2017. Mass + Main is expected to take about two years to complete before residents will occupy the new buildings.

The best part about a development project this size is that it will provide new housing options for everyone, in addition to all those shopping choices. Just steps from MIT and close to the Central Square MBTA Red Line Station, it’s easy to see why Mass + Main will make a great home for anyone.
