Brookline

The Longwood area of eastern Brookline was originally part of Samuel Sewall’s large farming estate. The area began getting more developed when the Brookline Branch Railroad was developed. It was developed primarily with the intention of being a fashionable residential area in the 1850s by David Sears and Amos Adams Lawrence. Also by this time, David Sears had planted over fourteen thousand beech trees in the Longwood Area. This has come to be Longwood Park, and though there are not quite as many trees anymore, the green space is well treasured.

Today, Coolidge Corner is characterized by busy streets and crowded sidewalks, a very different sight from the spread of large farms it used to be. Coolidge Corner has much to offer its residents, from its quaint, independent movie theater to the Arcade Building on Harvard St with assorted shops.
